Jerwood, Hastings, Stade, IPG
The Credit crunch may be munching its way through Britain but here in Hastings things are looking very bright! Alan Grieve, Chair of the Jerwood Foundation spoke at the Wavelength conference about his commitment towards situating their new gallery in Hastings Old Town. This is due to be built on a coach park area of the Stade and there is increasing support for the project. The overall scheme will also include a large multi purpose area for community activities. A group of us rallied at 9am in the morning.
As a result of so much interest, support and discussion a new local JerwoodHastings blog has been launched. This is a useful resource for information, facts, developments and questions.
We visited a wonderful exhibition at the Conquest Hospital of IPSE (the Independent Photographers South East). Organised by the Independent Photographers Gallery Battle and Arts in Healthcare who co-ordinate exhibitions and arts projects at the Hospital.
The McCarron’s of Mercatoria are expanding by launching a larger new shop and cafe in Norman road this Friday 31October.

Great idea BUT really worried that the design of the building will spoil the Old Town, which is about the only part of Hastings that is wonderful! If they build a modern building rather than something that blends in with the fishing village and if it is on more than one level this will spoil Hastings Old town.
Please advise – thanks

Nooooooooooo!
Totally the wrong place. I haven’t yet met a single person who is for this scheme. Where are all the people who support it?
Why not St. Mary-in-the-Castle or use all that money to refurbish the pier and have a really interesting gallery site?
