January, Old Town, First Thursday

After a Siberian four week spell taking in the New Year season, the coast is back to more typically breezier, warmer and ever lighter evenings.  Last week we made a visit to the  Corinna Button exhibition at the Weekend gallery, Hastings Old Town. This features fascinating and lively figurative work mixing collagraph, etching, oil and other media.

The Weekend gallery represents several important and established artists including Michael Davies (paintings) and the wood turner John Hunnex whose work is highly sought after for its beautiful craftsmanship.

The Weekend gallery is also taking the lead on an enterprising new initiative named ‘First Thursday’

Throughout 2007 and 2008 the Old Town witnessed a growing number of new galleries and businesses. Many of the galleries will now be open until late in the evening (8 or 9pm) on the first Thursday of every month.

So starting on Thursday February 5 this will make an attractive evening for any visitor who can follow the gallery trail, see and buy some art, browse interesting, unique shops and eat a good meal at one of the many restaurants !

Participating galleries so far include the Weekend Gallery, Leigh Gallery, WPS Gallery, Gallery 53,  Tablet Gallery and The Old Gallery.
