The project to be completed by 2011 is to become a permanent home for the Jerwood’s substantial collection of C20th and C21st British art as well as hosting a visual art programme. In addition to gallery spaces the building will also include a sculpture courtyard, education space, a first floor cafe with views over the beach, archive and research rooms. This will provide facilities for Hastings residents as well as attracting new audiences to the historic Hastings Old Town.

Hastings Borough Council will also be developing a major new public space alongside the building to host community activities, festivals, a cafe and arts programme.

At the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery (HMAG) an excellent exhibition titled ‘Coasting’ is on for two months and features a superb collection of coastal images by Turner, Bonnington, Peter De Wint and others. Well worth a visit !
