Festivals, Hot Houses, Pugwash

Its the height of summer and in this region we have numerous festivals all the way through to the end of October !.

Very sadly John Ryan cartoonist creator of Captain Pugwash fame passed away but the Rye Society of Artists (of which he was also a member) are paying tribute to him by featuring his work on this year’s publicity for their annual exhibition.

This exhibition runs from 1 August to 5 September and displays work of more than 50 local artists within a fifteen mile radius of Rye including some RA’s. The exhibition is open every day. The Rye Festival starts on September 12.

Hastings Old Town Carnival week starts on the 1 August and this co-incides with the newly launched Hastings Hot Houses Art Trail where over 40 artists and makers are opening their houses and studios over the first two weekends.

As for galleries on the 31 July the Arts Forum start their annual members show, the Stables Theatre is displaying prints with an interesting mixture of artists including Davida Smith and Siobhan O’Hanlon. The refurbished Gill Gallery in the revamped Kings Road area is currently presenting an exhibition of work by Jem Turpin showing prints and paintings until the 29 July.

and the Ryepress gallery open for the next First Thursday is showing a range of new work by Colin Bailey.
