The Hastings Arts forum based on the St Leonards seafront has recently launched its new website, a much updated improvement which is being developed further over the next few months. In August the 2 galleries hosted an exhibition of work by Hastings College students.

The forum is also featuring a show titled ‘Connections which is a ‘coastal link of artists from Lewes to Rye’ Assembled by Kim Thrower and Renee Jasper, artists participating include Harry  Snook, Nigel Plumb, Rachel Lever, Peter Quinnell and many others.

This attractive strip of  St Leonards seafront is well worth a visit. Since the pavement widening there has been much more activity with cafes and bars such as Aardvark,

Kassa, Smiths, Azur and Bar Blah all highly recommended and now offering outdoor seating with stunning views of the sea!. Its only five minutes walk from St Leonards Warrior Square Station

Rye, Hothouses, Studios

The final weekend of the new Hastings Hothouses has just finished with more than 40 artists opening their homes and studios to the public as part of the Hastings Old Town Carnival week which included many talks, events, pram and bike races, street parties and another First Thursday’ event with new exhibition openings.

The new Coastal Currents Arts Festival programme is also out for the 10th year event and it runs during the whole of September. This year the Festival is packed full of activities and is managed by Creative Coast who also co-ordinate a weekly e-bulletin developed from the former Artwatchnews.

The Rye Society of Artists’ exhibition continues until the 5 September and is open every day from 10am -5pm.

It includes work by Gus Cummins, Louis Turpin, Richard Adams, Angie Braven,  Roland Jarvis, Harry Snook, Sarah Palmer, Judith Rowe, Lorna Vahey, Sophie Mason, Robert and Peter Greenhalf and many others.

Rye Art Gallery is hosting its ’summer show’ with a fascinating mix of smaller items in wood, ceramic, jewellery, prints, textiles by both local artists as well as those from further afield.  The exhibition finishes on 6 September.
